Avatar Seven Havens Afflicted has the twins fight a red black entity by using energy bending.

Season 1

The Afflicted in Avatar: Seven Havens are the people touched by the red Cataclysm storm, and episodes 4-6 are where Ellora’s fear of the Avatar stops being an inherited story and becomes something people can see. The block also answers part of Nisha’s past and opens a harder question about Pavi’s.

If you missed how this started, the premiere set up the twin Avatars and a world that blames the Avatar for its destruction. This block shows what that blame does once someone actually sees the Avatar bend.

Karthik’s Secret Room and the Radio

The twins get suspicious after finding a hidden room in Karthik’s office. In it is an armband that matches the one Pavi wears as a brooch to fasten her cape. It turns out to be Nisha’s own, and she puts it back on. A flashback shows Karthik collecting Nisha and telling her he has waited a long time to meet her. He never explains why he kept her armband hidden instead of giving it back.

He does tell his side of the story, with a letter to back it up. Their parents contacted him to say they had the Avatar. He crossed a sandstorm and found Nisha, with no sign of Pavi. Believing there was only one Avatar, and with no precedent for twins, he took Nisha with him. What happened to Pavi in the meantime is still unexplained.

The room also holds a radio that can reach other havens. The havens are forbidden to talk to each other, and the radio is for emergencies only. Karthik uses it, and someone answers asking for help, but we never learn what the danger is. A ban on contact means nobody can compare accounts of the Cataclysm, which is my reading and not something the show has stated.

How the Faceless Raids Made the Fear Real

Episode 4 introduces the Faceless, a new gang stealing food supplies. Uki goes out to investigate, finds them, and leaves behind a map marking where the raids happened. Jae somehow works out where the next one will hit. It’s a convenient leap, but the pace of the action covers it. By the end of the episode, Uki has been kidnapped.

The twins join Jae, and for the first time they’re seen bending all four elements. Only a city guard sees it, at night, from a distance, with no faces. What he describes is murky, maybe fire from one figure and earth from another. It’s enough. Ellora’s fear stops being abstract, and in episode 5 it spreads through pamphlets, open questions about the city’s leadership, and a man who takes the mayor hostage in the public square while she’s speaking to calm everyone down.

His eyes turn red, the same red as the storm from the premiere.

The red-black entity fills a hall with red lightning as two figures hold on to each other in Avatar: Seven Havens

Who Are the Afflicted in Avatar: Seven Havens?

The Afflicted are the people who came into contact with the red storm. The lieutenant from the first episode was chased and touched by it. The hostage-taker shows the same red eyes. In episode 6, Afflicted patients take over a hospital and call the twins “the Avatar,” with one begging them not to hurt him.

What the show has established so far:

  • They’re afraid. Their words are pleas, not threats.
  • They recognize the Avatar. Ordinary Ellora needed a rumor, while the Afflicted seem to know on sight.
  • They see distorted reality. One man sees Pavi as something twisted.
  • They can be reached. Pavi tells Karthik the lieutenant is scared and needs calming. He only settles after Nisha blocks him with a wall of rock, and then he says, “The spirit world is angry.”

Korra veterans will think of Vaatu when they see the red. The show hasn’t said it.

Pavi’s Missing Leg Is the Real Mystery

Episode 6 opens with Pavi feeling pain in a leg she doesn’t have. The doctor tells her she lost it recently. Pavi says she was born this way. Those two accounts can’t both be right, and the show gives us nothing else: the loss was recent, and she wasn’t born without it.

She’s fitted with a crutch until a prosthetic is ready, and she refuses help getting around. When an Afflicted man sees her, she tells him, “I am not the Avatar. The Avatar has two legs.” The line is her denial, but it also uses her own body as evidence against herself.

The Hospital Fight and the Flashback

When the red-black entity touches several people in the hospital, Karthik is left fighting alone. Nisha is caught in a trance, and Pavi is the one who gets her out of it and keeps a cool head. Then they fight together, with Nisha serving as Pavi’s crutch.

They drive the entity back using energy bending, and the effort tires them. Instead the entity takes them into a flashback, and we see their parents for the first time. They’re planning a two-week trip through the harshlands to bring the Avatar to Ellora, the same stretch where Nisha was found in episode 5. We also see the girls together in a bed. The flashback never says whether the parents knew both daughters were Avatars. The entity may have pulled them away because it was scared of them, which is a guess.

The Question Karthik Leaves Hanging

The episode ends with Karthik asking how the twins learned energybending so fast. It echoes Aang learning it from the lion turtle before facing Ozai. One reading that fits what we’ve seen is that the skill carries over from past lives without conscious memory, like Aang picking out his old toys in the Air Nomad test. Aang’s Avatar state also surfaced before he understood his past lives. The show doesn’t answer, and neither do the twins.

Episodes 4-6 turn the Afflicted from a premiere mystery into a threat inside Ellora, and the red entity into something that may be afraid of the twins, not the other way round. It also leaves two gaps open: how Pavi lost her leg, and what the parents knew.
