Daredevil: Born Again ending after season 3 is now confirmed. The Hollywood Reporter broke the story today, with Variety and Deadline independently confirming that calls were made to the cast informing them the upcoming third season will be the last. Season 3 wrapped production a couple of months ago and is currently in post-production, with a 2027 Disney+ premiere planned — but there’s an additional wrinkle: showrunner Dario Scardapane has already exited the project mid-post. Who finishes the final season is not yet known.

Daredevil: Born Again Ending After Season 3 — How We Got Here

Charlie Cox first played Matt Murdock in Netflix’s Daredevil, which ran from 2015 to 2018 and served as the launchpad for the street-level Marvel universe on the streamer — spawning Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Punisher, and The Defenders. When Netflix cancelled the show in 2018, it felt like a premature ending to something with real momentum.

The Disney+ revival was announced in 2022, originally planned as an 18-episode first season. Then came the 2023 writers’ and actors’ strikes, a complete creative overhaul, the departure of original head writers Matt Corman and Chris Ord, and the arrival of Scardapane as showrunner alongside directors Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead. The overhauled 18 episodes were split into two seasons. Season 1’s nine episodes landed in March 2025 to solid reviews, leaving Kingpin as New York’s new mayor and Foggy Nelson dead. Season 2 — eight episodes, March 2026 — brought Krysten Ritter back as Jessica Jones and Mike Colter in a finale cameo as Luke Cage, with Kingpin stripped of his mayoral title and Matt Murdock’s identity exposed to the public.

Season 3 was greenlit in September 2025 before Season 2 had even aired. Production ran from March to July 2026, wrapping a couple of months ago. It is now in post-production, with a 2027 Disney+ premiere currently planned.

The Scardapane Exit Is the Real Story

The news that Born Again is ending after season 3 is one thing. The news that Scardapane is gone before the final season is even finished is another. He was the person who actually made Born Again what it became — brought in to rescue a production in crisis, rebuilding it almost from scratch, delivering a show well-received enough to earn a third season. His departure mid-post raises questions that won’t be answered until 2027: whose cut is this, and how much of Scardapane’s vision survives?

It echoes, in a different key, the creative turbulence that defined Season 1 before it aired. Born Again has always been a show that needed rescuing. The question is whether the rescue held all the way to the end.

A Defenders Reunion to Close It Out

What makes the Daredevil: Born Again ending after season 3 meaningful for longtime Marvel fans is what Season 3 appears to be: a full street-level Defenders reunion. Leaked set photos confirmed Finn Jones returning as Danny Rand / Iron Fist alongside Ritter and Colter. Élodie Yung, who played Elektra in the Netflix run, is also back. The full Defenders lineup, assembled one last time.

The setup coming out of Season 2 gives that reunion genuine stakes. Matt Murdock is in prison with his identity exposed. Wilson Fisk is in exile. If Season 3 delivers on what the cast and set reports are pointing toward, it won’t just close out Born Again — it’ll close out the entire street-level Marvel story that started back in 2015. That’s worth something, even if the road to get there has been anything but smooth.

What Comes Next for the MCU Street Level

The bigger question is what happens to these characters after this. As part of Marvel’s Phase 6 plans, Cox’s Matt Murdock has become one of the MCU’s most reliable presences — appearing in Spider-Man: No Way Home, She-Hulk, and Echo alongside the Born Again run. D’Onofrio’s Kingpin is arguably the best villain in the entire Disney+ catalogue. Neither feels like a permanent retirement, even if this chapter is closing.

The Ant-Man situation showed how quickly Marvel can sideline a character when a run underperforms. But Born Again is the opposite problem: it ends from a position of strength. That makes the silence about what comes next more deliberate than final.

Season 3 of Daredevil: Born Again is expected on Disney+ in March 2027.
